Kinesiology (the study of human movement) focuses on prevention rather than cure. A chiropractor discovered that by applying a gentle pressure to muscles while isolated in specific positions it is possible to ascertain a state of health.
Kinesiology is a holistic bodywork therapy that works on all aspects of health - physical, nutritional, mental, emotional and spiritual. The goal is to help remove stressors that may be preventing the person enjoying optimum health.
Kinesiology works on the basis that in order to have complete health, we must look at the whole person and not just individual symptoms. Factors that affect the physical body will not only affect othe rparts of the body but will have an effect on the mind and emotions too. For example, chronic back pain often leads to a person feeling depressed and excessive worrying causes changes in hormones levels in the body potentially leading to the development of a stomach ulcer. Behavioural problems in children, such as Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) can be triggered by sensitivity to certain foods/food additives and lack of essential nutrients in the diet. In this situation it would be ineffective to try and treat the behavioural problem without first addressing the nutritional cause. Kinesiology is effective because it seeks to address the cause rather than 'paper over' the symptoms.
Often people exhibit a range of symptoms and indeed, people often show different symptoms even though the
underlying cause is the same. How do we establish the cause and know how to put it right? A skilled kinesiology practitioner uses muscle testing to body energy to assess where stress may be causing imbalances in the energy flow and therefore the symptom being exhibited. Kinesiology makes use of the body's inherent intelligence to find the best correction to bring the person back into balance.
Kinesiology not only identifies the source of the problem it gives us the solution to restore balance.
Kinesiology can help a wide range of conditions such as: arthritis, asthma, backache, behavioural problems, candida (thrush/athletes foot), chronic fatigue syndrome (ME), depression, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), headaches, hormonal problems, joint pain, learning difficulties, phobias, rheumatism, stress, skin disorders and weight issues.
How did kinesiology develop?
Kinesiology was developed by Dr George Goodheart in the 1960's. Through his research he was able to develop a system combining Western medical techniques with knowledge drawn from Chinese/Eastern health systems. Since its early development, kinesiology has grown rapidly and there are now several different branches of the therapy.
Is kinesiology safe?
Kinesiology is a very safe, non-invasive therapy which can enhance health in everyone from the elderly to young babies. It does not diagnose or treat disease in the conventional sense but instead asks the body to reveal what it needs in order to restore energy balance and a sense of well-being. This can bring about a marked improvement inhealth in a short space of time. As with all therapies, it is wise to check the qualifications and insurance provision of the therapist you are seeing.
